Happy Apple Quilts began in 2005 as the team effort of twin sisters, Karen Grof and Sharen Weber. The name "Happy Apple" comes from happy childhood memories of their parents' apple orchard in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Originally started as a pattern designed company, Happy Apple Quilts has grown far beyond pattern design. Like all quilters, we just can't help ourselves. There are always more fabrics, more designs and ideas. More new techniques. More new tools. So, we keep adding more to our website. Since January of 2008, we've been selling our fabrics at Sue's Bay Area Sewing in Palm Harbor, FL
Karen and Sharen also travel together to vendor at shows. Karen is a faculty member of the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo. Having lived 1,300 miles apart since 1977, we see each other more than any time in our adult lives.
Karen and her husband, Jim, moved to Safety Harbor, Florida in 1977. They have two grown children, Katie and Randy. In August 2009, Katie and her husband, Jamie, welcomed Karen and Jim's first grandchild, Evelyn Rose. (Evie is named for our mother.)
Sharen and her husband Dan live in Milan, Michigan with their three sons Ethan, Evan and Brian.
Both women have focused their lives on family, faith and home. Happy Apple Quilts embodies those values and we are grateful for the opportunity to share our products with you.
Karen has been quilting for over 30 years, starting with a baby quilt for her daughter Katie in 1977. With an art background and training in drawing and painting, she soon began creating her own quilt designs. Until the birth of her twin sons in 1990, Sharen was an accountant. She re-entered the business world in 2002. Sharen brings her business experience to the venture.
